Two Orange Citys, two kinds of pool

The old part of town along Volusia Avenue and around the historic district has homes going back a century, shaded by oaks that drop pollen in March and leaves the rest of the year. Pools there tend to be older, often unscreened, and the filters clog in a hurry.

Out toward Saxon Boulevard and the interstate the subdivisions are newer, the pools are screened, and the equipment is more modern. The work there is steadier, but the sun on an open screened pool still burns off chlorine by mid afternoon.

Spring water and hard water

Orange City sits on the same aquifer that feeds Blue Spring, and the well and city water here comes out hard. Fill water with high calcium builds scale on tile and inside a salt cell, and a pool that gets topped off often will drift high on calcium over a season.

We watch calcium hardness on Orange City pools more closely than most, and we clean salt cells more often here because the scale forms sooner.
