Country pools

Geneva is acreage. Homes sit on big lots along State Road 46 and the roads that run toward Lake Geneva and Lake Harney, with pasture, pines and oaks around them. Most pools are unscreened, so they take full sun, full rain, and every leaf and needle the wind carries. A pool out here works harder than one inside a cage in a subdivision.

Debris and sun drive the routine. Chlorine burns off in a hurry without a screen to soften the sun, so stabilizer has to be right, and the filter needs cleaning often because the pool acts like a catch basin for the whole yard.

Well water and metals

Geneva runs on wells, and the water in this part of the county carries iron and sometimes sulfur. Iron stains plaster and turns fresh fill water brown as soon as chlorine hits it. We test the well when we start on a Geneva pool and treat the metals before they land on the surface.

Well fed pools also drift on calcium and alkalinity in ways city water pools don't. Balancing here is more about the fill water than the swimmers.

Between the lakes and the river

The land toward Lake Harney and the St. Johns floods in a wet year. A pad that went under water needs the motor and the electrical checked before it runs again, and any drain near the river needs the water table checked first.
