Trees, trees, and more trees

Longwood is known for its old growth. The historic district downtown, the neighborhoods around Big Tree Park, and Sweetwater Oaks toward the Wekiva River all sit under heavy canopy. For a pool that means constant leaf drop, spring pollen thick enough to film the water, and less sun than the chemistry wants.

Shaded pools go green from the walls in, because algae gets a foothold where the sun never reaches. Brushing every visit matters more here than in a wide open subdivision, and filters need cleaning far more often.

Seventies and eighties pools

A big share of Longwood housing dates from the seventies and eighties, and the pools were built with the houses. Those pools have original plumbing, older skimmers, and in a lot of cases a DE filter that's been rebuilt more than once.

The plaster on those pools is generally done or close to it. We do a lot of resurfacing and retiling in Longwood, and a lot of honest conversations about whether the equipment pad should be replaced at the same time.

Lake Brantley and Wekiva

Pools near Lake Brantley and out toward the Wekiva sit on higher ground than the river towns we work, but the springs keep the water table up near the river. We check groundwater before any drain there.
