Tuscawilla and the eighties boom

Tuscawilla and the neighborhoods off State Road 434 were built largely through the eighties and nineties, and most homes got a screened pool. That puts a large group of pools at the same point: plaster rough, tile line failing, and pumps and filters that have been swapped once already and are due again.

We also see a lot of original spa and pool combinations here with old air blowers and gas heaters that haven't fired in years. Whether to repair or remove them is a conversation we have often in Winter Springs.

Lake Jesup weather

Winter Springs sits on the south shore of Lake Jesup, one of the largest lakes on the St. Johns. The lake breeds afternoon storms and carries a steady supply of insects and pollen onto the screens. The north side of town near the lake also has a higher water table than the rest.

Summer rain here is heavy and frequent. A pool can take an inch of rain in an afternoon, which dilutes chlorine and stabilizer and drops the pH. Weekly balancing keeps up with that. Tablets alone don't.
